Les choses

At GIAF25, Kiwalim held a weekly workshop titled Les choses every Thursday. Inspired by the novel of the same title by French writer Georges Perec, the workshop sought to shed new light on the memories and narratives embedded in everyday objects.

The workshop began with eleven objects selected from the artists’ daily ritual of sharing coffee each morning. These items were brought into the exhibition space and given stories. Participants chose one of the displayed objects, shared personal stories related to it, and then took turns writing a sentence at a time. The sentences came together to form a page of fiction. Through this process, ordinary objects were reborn as new presences infused with the participants’ memories and imagination.

Even on days without the workshop, the objects remained on display, allowing visitors to encounter them as part of the exhibition. In this way, Kiwalim connected the past and present of the space with their own lives and artistic practice—treating everyday objects as both sources of inspiration and integral elements of their work.

The workshop was held at Former Hahm’s Surgical Clinic, where Dr. Hahm once welcomed patients and hosted tea therapies.
