Nestled near Dongbu Market, Okcheon-dong Warehouse stands as a key site in Gangneung’s urban regenerational efforts. Originally serving as a granary before transitioning into a cold
storage facility for frozen goods, the warehouse eventually fell into disuse for many years. Its revival began with the GIAF23, which transformed the abandoned structure into a public exhibition space. This initiative was met with overwhelming enthusiasm from both the local community and visitors, proving the potential of repurposing historical spaces for cultural engagement. Building on this success, GIAF25 continues to utilize the Okcheon-dong Warehouse, reinforcing its role as a symbolic bridge between sustainable urban renewal and artistic expression.
Now a vibrant cultural landmark, the warehouse fosters accessibility to art, inviting a broader
audience to engage with creativity in an environment rich with history and transformation.
