Workshop

Les choses

At GIAF25, artist duo Kiwalim presents Les choses, a workshop series inspired by Georges Perec’s novel of the same name, held every Thursday at Former Hahm’s Surgical Clinic. This workshop reimagines the stories and memories of everyday objects, exploring how inanimate things accumulate meaning over time.
In Perec’s novel, protagonists Jérôme and Sylvie aimlessly wander through flea markets. The items they collect transcend from mere possessions—they become traces of life, vessels of memory, and sources of nostalgia. Drawing from this idea, Kiwalim’s workshop invites participants to engage with objects in a similar way, unlocking their hidden narratives.
Participants begin by selecting an object from the exhibition, engaging in discussions about its meaning and significance. Then, in a collaborative writing exercise, participants collectively shape a single page of a novel. The objects gain new layers of storytelling, expanding beyond their physical form to become carriers of imagination, memory, and shared experience.
