Things Non-negligible
Artist SUH Dasom presents Things Non-negligible, a new installation and workshop series as part of her ongoing project, Practice Makes Practice. Hosted at Seven-Roomed Yeogwan, this work explores the habits and folklore of dokkaebi (Korean goblins) through a contemporary lens, shedding light on the ways these mythical beings intersect with everyday life in Gangneung’s peripheral spaces.
The project unfolds in two stages: The first workshop begins with an intimate gathering of individuals selected for their dokkaebi-like qualities. Over the course of two days, participants engage in an immersive experience, their interactions documented through video. The second workshop invites six members of the audience to dusk sessions, where they listen to stories shared in the first workshop and reflect on dokkaebi’s unique approach to life, drawing parallels to their own experiences. In addition, they partake in dishes inspired by reinterpretations of traditional dokkaebi foods, reinforcing the idea of discovering insights from folklore that resonate in our present-day reality.
