Children’s Docent

Children’s Docent in collaboration with the Gangwon Regional Office of Meteorology

The Children’s Docent in collaboration with the Gangwon Regional Office of Meteorology, operated every Tuesday during the festival, for the local children. Situated on the eastern coast of the Taebaek mountain range, Gangneung is a city with distinct seasonal weather patterns. Each spring, for example, strong, dry winds descending from Daegwallyeong heighten the risk of wildfires. To help children understand how climate affects their region, the GIAF team and the Office of Meteorology created a hands-on learning experience through this program.
The program began with a dedicated shuttle picking children up from their daycare centers. The group first visited the Gangneungdaedohobu Government Office to visit the exhibition. The children were guided by a professional docent before they headed to the Office of Meteorology. There, they learned about Gangneung’s climate, weather observation tools, and the factors that cause climate shifts. The visit included interactive activities such as assembling educational kits and trying out a weathercaster roleplay. For safety, each group was accompanied by one docent and two assistant teachers.
