Located near Dongbu Market, Okcheon-dong Warehouse serves as a focal point for Gangneung’s urban regeneration projects. Originally used as a granary and later as a storage facility for frozen products and other items, the Okcheondong Warehouse was left unused for many years. To breathe new life into the space, the Gangneung International Art Festival 2023(GIAF23) transformed the abandoned warehouse into an open exhibition space accessible to the public. The transformation was successful and was enthusiastically received by the local community and visitors alike, which lead to the Okcheon-dong Warehouse being utilized for the Gangneung International Art Festival 2025(GIAF25). While solidifying its symbolic role in connecting sustainable urban regeneration and cultural activities, the building brings art and culture closer to a wider audience.
