송신규는 시간이 지남에 따라 이제는 흔적만 남아 있는 낡은 장소나 변화한 풍경 등에서 숨은 이야기를 발굴하는 작업을 이어오고 있다. 이번 페스티벌에서 선보이는 <볼 수 없는 것>은 강릉시 옥천동에 위치한 동부시장을 주목했다. 동부시장은 서부시장과 더불어 강릉에서 가장 오래된 상설시장이자 강릉 최초의 주상복합 건물로 현재 재건축에 대한 논의가 이루어지고 있다. 긴 세월을 품은 채 변해버린 공간과 그곳에서 삶을 이어오고 있는 상인들의 숨결이 깃든 사물들의 이야기에 귀 기울인 작가는 시간이 응축된 사물들을 종이 죽으로 본뜬 오브제로 표현했다. 작가는 기능이 제거되고 변형된 종이로 다시 처음의 사물의 모습을 재현해 보는 과정을 통해 본래의 성질, 의미, 기억을 상쇄시키며 자신 안에 있는 기억의 사물을 떠올리게 한다.
SONG SHIN-KYU works with hidden stories that are excavated from changed landscapes that are left only with traces of time. In Can’t See, the artist focuses on Dongbu Market in Okcheon-dong. Dongbu Market is the first residential commercial complex and one of the oldest permanent markets in Gangneung, alongside Seobu Market.
Currently, deliberations are in progress concerning its reconstruction. The artist paid attention to the stories of objects imbued with the breath of the merchants, the individuals who have lived in the space enduring changes over many years. The accumulated time of the objects is expressed with papier-mâché, the materiality of paper that lost its original function. By carefully tracing the forms the objects once would have had, SONG SHIN-KYU blurs out the original nature, meaning, and memories of these objects, calling onto an inner response of our own memories.

송신규는 국립강릉원주대학교 서양화과를 졸업하고, 홍익대학교 일반대학원에서 회화과 석사과정을 졸업했다. 작가는 레지던시를 임시 거처로 삼아 대만, 원주, 춘천, 강릉 등의 지역에서 땅의 기억을 소재로 자신의 유년 시절 추억을 다룬다. 시간이 지남에 따라 이제는 흔적만 남아 있는 낡은 장소나 변화한 풍경 등에서 숨은 이야기를
발굴하고 이를 회화, 조각, 설치 등 다양한 매체로 선보인다.
주요 개인전으로 《오랫동안 잊혀진》(개나리미술관, 2022), 《인간과 고향》(박수근미술관 파빌리온, 2022) ,《자연으로 돌아가다》(토지문화관 박경리 작가의 집 전시실, 2020) 등이 있으며, 주요 그룹전으로는《상춘십곡賞春什曲-봄을 환대하라》(춘천문화예술회관 전시장, 2023), 강원작가트리엔날레 2022 《사공보다 많은 산》 등이 있다.
SONG SHIN-KYU graduated in the department of Fine Art at Gangneung Wonju National University and finished the master’s course in the department of Painting at Hongik University graduate school. By using the artist’s residencies as temporary homes, the artist deals with his
childhood memories as the memory of the land in places such as Taiwan, Wonju, Chuncheon, and Gangneung. As a result, hidden stories are excavated from changed landscapes that are left only with traces of time, and expressed through various media such as painting, sculpture, and
installation.
The artist’s major solo exhibitions include The Long Forgotten (Gallery GAENAREE, 2022), Human and Homeland (Park Soo Keun Museum in Yanggu County, 2022), and Return to Nature (Toji Cultural Foundation, 2020), and his major group exhibitions include Welcome Spring (Chuncheon Culture &
Art Center, 2023), and Gangwon Artists Triennale 2022 Hundreds of Boats, Thousands of Mountains.
